About Yun Yong-gu (1852-1939)
Renowned for his excellent calligraphy, the government official Yun Yong-gu, penname Seokchon, is a household name even today. Yun was also a celebrated painter of bamboo, orchids and landscapes. Disheartened by Japan’s occupation of Korea, Yun Yong-gu left the public arena in which he was so well known and spent his last years as a recluse.
