White Lidded Bowl with Stand

This vessel is an example of the prized white porcelain ware of the early kilns of the Yi dynasty. The vessel stands on a elevated foot ring, covered in a high-domed lid, and crowned with an extended conical knob known as a cintamani, or precious jewel. Representing a merging of the simplicity of Goryo bronze vessels with the ample form of punchong wares, the effect of this vessel lies in the purity and formality of its monumental form. A similar vessel is also in the collection of the Ho-am Art Museum in Seoul, Korea.
